Sprecher - Glass Bottle

Sprecher earns the… erm… *cough* “privilege” of being the first root beer to receive a review here. I will probably re-review these early ones later on when I have more under my belt. I did not seek it out specifically for any reason, it was simply among the grab-bag of bottled root beer on the shelf of the big chain grocery store I was in when I decided to go for my life goal of drinking root beer for a living. The next day I went to reach for one out of my fridge and it had the most appealing bottle of the lot.

It does look a little pretentious with the “fire-brewed” label and the mention of honey. Are these things that are not part of the normal root beer crafting process? That’s an honest question - I do not know. It has occurred to me that there is much I need to learn about root beer if I’m going to parade around as an expert on it.

Tasting it I can do with confidence though, and I did. I drank it fresh from the glass bottle (twist off) at fridge temperature. For those of you snobby enough to want to know if that means it was properly chilled, I actually have no idea. It’s cold enough the milk doesn’t spoil overnight. (I’ll buy a thermometer.)

It hits me with the slightest of bites, just enough to know I’m drinking root beer. The honey is definitely there, and the vanilla is smooth but neither provides a particularly strong flavor. It’s carbonated, but just a bit. The aftertaste comes and goes quickly, and I immediately want to drink more.

Overall the experience is very pleasant. It’s very easy to drink and it’s definitely a root beer, though nothing in particular stands out - and sometimes that is exactly what you want. It has easily been my favorite of this first batch of reviews.
